COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) – 7-year-old Blake Mompher is excited to wear his custom-built mac ’n cheese costume for Halloween this year.

If Blake looks familiar, he went viral in 2018 for his school bus costume made by his grandpa. He was born with spina bifida, which occurs when the spine and spinal cord don’t form correctly according to the Mayo Clinic.

Blake's 2018 costume and story was shared by many major outlets and around the world.

“He’s always really liked school buses,” Megan Mompher, Blake’s mom, said in 2018.

After his school bus costume went viral, his mom said messages kept pouring in from people wanting to share his smile and story.

“Every day, I was just getting messages in my inbox of people asking to share his story and it was just endless,” said Megan Mompher. “We never expected this to go as viral as it has, but it’s just been so exciting.”

A few months later, Blake wowed his family and friends when he walked across the stage to receive his preschool graduation certificate. It was the first time his classmates saw him walk.

His happy demeanor inspired many as Blake has faced numerous medical challenges requiring long stays in the hospital — sometimes for weeks at a time.

Still smiling, this year Blake is dressing up like a bowl of Kraft macaroni and cheese.
