APPLETON (WLUK) -- A new Irish festival is being planned for Appleton this fall.

The inaugural Irish Fest of the Fox Cities is set for Sept. 17-18 at Jones Park.

Organizers say Irish Fest will include music, food, children's activities, Irish culture and Gaelic sports.

"We have been planning this festival for almost three years now and had originally planned to launch in the Fall of 2020. But, with the global pandemic this was obviously not possible. So hopefully by September everyone will be ready to safely congregate and enjoy live music again," Matt Miller, festival organizer, said in a news release. "We are so grateful to be able to launch this year. The planning committee has been working tirelessly to schedule a great lineup of Irish and Celtic groups. It has been especially tough since many of the international bands are still in lock-down and unable to obtain travel visas. We hope to announce the full schedule very soon."

Updates are expected to be posted on the festival's website and Facebook page.
