Xavier's Haen rallies to win state title

KOHLER (WLUK) -- Xavier's Lauren Haen carded a 78 Tuesday over the final 18 holes of the Division 2 girls golf state championship and won medalist honors by one shot at the Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run.

Haen shot a 47 during Monday's nine-hole shortened round and trailed first-day leader, Catholic Memorial's Ashley Stanislawski, by seven shots.

Haen, a senior, finished strong Tuesday, playing the final four holes in one-under par, while second-place finishes Ava Salay of Prescott bogeyed all four holes to finish with an 84. Salay shot 42 on Day 1.

State golf results

Meanwhile, Freedom placed fifth in team standings in Division 2 with a two-day total of 628. Prescott won the team title with a score of 560.

In Division 1, Notre Dame sophomore Grace Durkin was Northeast Wisconsin's top individual with scores of 47-82 for a two-day total of 129. She placed ninth.

Team-wise, Notre Dame placed sixth with a total of 557, while Hortonville was eighth at 608.
