Girls basketball state championship games are set

ASHWAUBENON (WLUK) -- Saturday the girls basketball season comes to a close as the state championship games at the Resch Center are now set.

Thursday, in Division 3, Marshall opened the tournament with a 58-47 win over Wisconsin Dells in a semifinal and Marshall will face Amherst, which beat St. Thomas More, 45-32.

Those teams play for a gold ball Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Later Thursday, the undefeated teams took over in Division 4. In one semifinal, Aquinas handled Crandon, 75-38, and then Melrose-Mindoro beat Manitowoc Lutheran, 64-30.

Aquinas, last year's state runner-up, plays Melrose-Mindoro at 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

Friday morning, in Division 5, undefeated Black Hawk beat Newman Catholic, 57-31, and then later Bangor beat Clayton, 57-54.

The Division 5 state title game is at 11:05 a.m. Saturday.

Friday afternoon, defending Division 2 state champs Beaver Dam downed Hortonville, 54-43, to reach the state title game against New Berlin Eisenhower, which topped Monroe, 67-63.

Tip off is 6:35 p.m.

And in Division 1, Appleton North will play for its second straight state title after beating Arrowhead, 52-38, in a semifinal.

North's opponent is Mukwonago, which defeated Oak Creek, 58-48, in the other Division 1 semifinal.

Game time is 8:15 p.m.
