Springs wins 4th straight state boys golf title

St. Mary's Springs won the D3 state golf title.

VERONA (WLUK) -- The St. Mary's Springs boys golf team won its fourth straight Division 3 state title as it completed Day 2 of the state tournament at University Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday.

After shooting a 329 on Monday the Ledgers returned Tuesday and carded a 313 for a two-day total of 642, 50 shots better than Abundant Life/Madison Country, which totaled 692.

Doyle Kelly of Springs finished second individually by one shot. He led the Ledgers on Tuesday, carding a 76, one day after shooting a 75.

State golf results

Tyler Leach of Spring Valley was the medalist as he shot a 70 Tuesday after carding an 80 Monday.

In Division 1, Fond du Lac (619 strokes) placed fourth in the team standings, Kaukauna (623) fifth and Notre Dame (653) 14th.

Kaukauna's Brock Hlinak was the area's top golfer in Division 1 as he carded a 69 Tuesday after opening with a 76. He was one-over par for the tournament, three shots behind first place.

Marquette University won the team title with a team score of 598.

In Division 2, Peshtigo placed sixth with a final score of 671, while Winneconne placed eighth at 706.

Edgewood won the D2 title with a final score of 605.
