Southern Door has been tested through three weeks of the season

BRUSSELS (WLUK) -- Southern Door has been living on the edge this football season, having played three games that were decided by a total of 10 points.

The Eagles are 2-1 in those games and Friday they play at Kewaunee in the Game Time Game of the Week.

Coach Pat McCarty, who led Southern Door to a perfect regular season last year, is pleased with his team's results.

"Every one of of our games so far have been a test for us," McCarty said. "Each game's gone down to the wire. We could easily be 3-0 , we could easily be 0-3.

"To be sitting where we are at 2-1 and 1-0 in the conference, we're very pleased."

Southern Door has defeated Winneconne, 46-40, lost to Wausau East, 17-14, and edged Oconto in overtime, 34-33. Friday, the Eagles play a team they have handled recently, having not lost to Kewaunee since 2013. Furthermore, they beat the Storm by a combined score of 83-3 in two games last season.

Along with that, Southern Door has won 14 straight conference games and even though the Eagles are competing in a new conference this season, the Marinette-Oconto Northern lakes Packerland Conference, they want to continue their winning ways in league play.

"It just shows that we rebuild really well and we keep things rolling no matter who graduates we keep things going," junior Derik LeCaptain said.

Despite Southern Door's recent play against Kewaunee, the Eagles know Friday won't be easy. Kewaunee has won its games by a combined score of 119-20.

"Kewaunee's a quality program and I expect another battle," McCarty said. "I think my kids are up for the task, we're getting better each week. If anything our season so far has battle tested us a bit so I don't think my kids are going to be overwhelmed or shocked when we step on the field Friday night in Kewaunee."
