GRAND CHUTE (WLUK) -- Green Bay Preble's quest to win its first state baseball title disappeared quickly Tuesday in the first game of the Division 1 state tournament at Fox Cities Stadium.

After the first two batters were retired in the third inning, Burlington scored three runs -- all unearned -- and that was enough as the Demons defeated the Hornets 3-0 to advance to a state semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

Game stats

Preble (24-4) managed just two hits and was shut out for the third time this season. Additionally, only three runners reached second base.

Max Wagner threw a complete game for the Hornets, allowing four hits, three unearned runs, while striking out four and walking two. He threw just 81 pitches in seven innings.
