APPLETON (WLUK) -- Since joining the Bay Conference in 2014 Menasha has lost exactly one conference game, two years ago at Xavier.
Friday, the teams meet again at Xavier in the GameTime Game of the Week and the Bluejays (2-0) know they have to be on their game.
"You're talking about playing against a very good football team a good program," Menasha coach Jeramie Korth said. "You're working hard on countless things, you're turning over every stone and see what you can do to give your kids the best chance to win on Friday night and to prepare their own players."
Xavier beat Menasha, 26-22, on Sept. 4, 2015 and a big reason for the win was Xavier was able to create turnovers when backed down deep into its territory.
"We created some turnovers with our backs against the wall," Xavier coach Dave Hinkens said. "We had some incredible individual performances. It was an environment and an electricity that felt like a Level 4 playoff game. I've never felt the energy in this place like that. It was one of the greatest experiences I've had as a coach in my 20-plus years."
Menasha quarterback Alex Zeinert knows what this game means to the conference season. The last three conference champs have won this game, so there is added meaning to this contest.
"We definitely realize this is going to probably decide the top three, the top two in the conference, so obviously this game means a lot," Zeinert said. "You got to take it each game at a time, when it comes down to it. The season isn't going to make or break this game but obviously it's a big step to our first goal, conference championship."
