GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Kimberly, Green Bay Preble and St. Mary Catholic are all chasing a state baseball title this week at the state tournament at Fox Cities Stadium.

In Division 1, Kimberly is the defending state champion but a repeat will not be easy as the Papermakers open up their tournament in a quarterfinal against Preble on Tuesday. Kimberly (18-7) is making its fifth straight state tournament appearance and placed second in the Fox Valley Assocaition with a 12-6 record.

Meanwhile, Preble (20-3) has won 16 straight games and during this streak only one team has even scored five runs in a game. Last year, Preble was undefeated entering the tournament only to lose in a state quarterfinal. Making its third consecutive state appearance the Hornets are excited for the opportunity.

"Well, anytime you get a chance to play in the state tournament, it's really exciting," Preble coach Andy Conard said. "We're so grateful for this opportunity and we're going to try to represent our conference as best we can down in Appleton. It's a great venue, it's great event. We're just really excited to be playing and we can't wait."

In Division 3, St. Mary Catholic won the state title in 2016, so this is hardly a new experience for the Zephyrs. SMC (17-2) plays Mineral Point (18-4) in a state semifinal Wednesday.

The Zephyrs lost their first two games of the season and since then have won 17 straight. They believe they are ready for the state tournament.

"I think we'll be fine there," senior Christian Jack said of playing at the state tournament. "It's the same game whether it's the first game of the season or we're playing at Fox Cities Stadium. We've been there before so that should work to our advantage.."

The state tournament starts Tuesday morning and the championship games will be decided Thursday. The past two seasons Northeast Wisconsin has had a team win a state title, so it'll be interesting if Kimberly, Preble and/or St. Mary Catholic can continue the streak.
