Kiel falls at state summer baseball tournament

Kiel fell to Marquette at the state summer baseball tournament.

MEQUON (WLUK) -- After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Marquette plated five runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to defeat the Raiders, 11-1, in six innings in a state summer baseball tournament semifinal Friday at Kaco Field.

Trenton Nickel scored Kiel's lone run after reaching first base on an error. He advanced to second base on a throwing error and then third base on a failed pickoff attempt. Austin Goehring then scored Nickel on a sacrifice fly.

The Hilltoppers (27-7) then scored five runs in the bottom of the frame on five hits.

Overall, Kiel (19-9) had four hits -- one each from Nickel, Goehring, Jon Meyer and Jonathan Grundl.
