Four area teams made it to Madison for the WIAA State Football Championships in 2019, but only one came back to North East Wisconsin with a gold ball.
St. Mary's Springs defeated Regis 7-0 in the D6 championship. It was the Ledgers third-straight title and 9th WIAA State Championship.
In Division 4 Kiel made its first ever state football appearance but ran into Catholic Memorial who won the D3 championship in 2018. The Raiders earned the silver ball coming up short 35-0.
In D3, Menasha was leading 7-0 until DeForest's final drive produced a touchdown and 2-point conversion with less than a minute left to defeat the Bluejays 8-7.
And finally in Division 4 unbeaten Bay Port lost its first game all year to reigning division 1 champ Muskego. The Pirates were led by senior running back Isiah Gash who had 185 rushing yards.
