GRAND CHUTE (WLUK) -- The run is done.
Fond du Lac's improbable postseason run ended late Tuesday night when it dropped an 8-4 decision to Eau Claire North in a Division 1 state baseball semifinal at Fox Cities Stadium.
North (24-4) broke open a close game with a five-run third inning to boost the lead to 7-0 and the Huskies cruised from there.
Fond du Lac (14-13), which opened the postseason with a 9-12 record, beat Brookfield East earlier Tuesday 2-1 in nine innings in a quarterfinal, but just couldn't continue its magic.
"I got them together and shook all their hands and I said such a pleasurable year," coach Marty Paulsen said. "We all had such a good time and it was amazing. I can't say enough about them.
"The seniors were fantastic, the underclassmen, just solid, good. Just a wonderful group of guys. It's one of those you hate to see the season end but it was great run they put themselves in being the eight seed coming in and all of a sudden here we are, semifinals.
"Unfortunately we lost, but you couldn't ask for much more."
