GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- De Pere's Lizzie Miller thought her basketball career was finished after this past season's Division 1 state title game, but as it turns out she has more basketball in her future.
Miller, the Fox River Classic Conference player of the year, will walk on at Wisconsin this coming season.
Miller led De Pere (25-3) to the FRCC title this past season and a runner-up finish to Appleton North in the state tournament. Miller, a FOX 11 all-area basketball selection, averaged 14.6 points per game and shot for 40.5 percent from three-point range, making 49-of-121 three-point attempts.
"The University of Wisconsin has always been my dream school," Miller said. "I grew up a Badgers fan and I knew it was the school for me. When I heard from the women's basketball team, I was so excited.
"I was given an opportunity too good to pass up. Although I thought I was going to be spending summer with my friends, I am so excited to be down in Madison, continuing my basketball career as a Badger."
"Lizzie has been given an opportunity of a lifetime to play for the Wisconsin Badgers," De Pere coach Jeremy Boileau said. "It is another testament to the hard work Lizzie has put in to have the opportunity to play at the next level. Wisconsin is getting a player who will accept her role in doing whatever it takes to help her team win."
