Bay Port's Baranczyk shoots even par, leads state meet after Day 1

VERONA (WLUK) -- Bay Port sophomore Jo Baranczyk shot an even-par 72 to grab a one-stroke lead on the first day of the Division 1 girls state golf meet Monday at University Ridge Golf Course.

Baranczyk was three-over after five holes but played the final 13 holes in three-under par. Baranczyk leads a trio of golfers by one shot.

Meanwhile, Kaukauna is tied for fifth place in the team standings with a total of 352. Lily Sheppard led the Galloping Ghosts with an 84.

Day 1 state golf results

As for Bay Port, the Pirates are in eighth place with a score of 356.

Kettle Moraine leads the team standings with a score of 318, while Middleton is second at 334.

The final round is Tuesday.

Division 2

Xavier is in second place in Division 2 after Day 1 as the Hawks carded a 356, 23 shots behind leader Edgewood, which carded a 333.

Clair Phakamad led Xavier with a 78, which is good for a tie for second place individually, four shots behind Aquinas' Annie Balduzzi, who shot a 74.

Luxemburg-Casco is in fifth place with a score of 417. Jenna Jorgensen lead the Spartans with a 95.
