GREEN BAY (WCWF) -- Ahead of the 2019 Mile of Music Festival taking place in Appleton, we wanted to meet some of the artists set to perform.

Michigander (Jason Singer) is an indie rock act based out of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Jason is the singer-songwriter and plays guitar. Musical influences come from the styles of Coldplay, Oasis and The National. Typically a solo project except during live performances, Michigander has been together since 2014.

"I feel like this is kind of getting started and it's exciting, and I'm excited for what's next."

Michigander is returning to the Mile of Music festival this August for their second performance.

"It was very artist-forward, very great, definitely a highlight of last year. It was just like every show was a good show. And the whole city was very welcoming and it's very unique."

Jason shares how they're ready for round two. "I think we're all very excited about it, we keep talking about how excited we are. It was one of the best weekends for us, and I'm excited just to play Mile and be in Appleton and I genuinely mean that."

He describes the crowd at the Mile as very intensive, filled of people who are ready to hear music.

"It tends to be a lot of these people genuinely care about what you're doing and are excited to hear your tunes."

And what's Michigander's takeaway after the festival?

"I think one thing is people come from all over the Midwest to see Mile of Music, and I think as we return after Mile and we play Minneapolis, in Iowa or even Wisconsin- people who saw us at Mile end up coming to our shows in other cities, and that's pretty cool and kind of unusual- in a good way."

If you have yet to hear Michigander, a song Jason suggests you listen to is the brand new single "Poplar" off his new EP Where Do We Go From Here.

"It's kinda a song about coming into realization of what I'm supposed to do with my life and where I'm at.. but also coping with feeling a little lost at times."

That album is set to be released mid-September. You can hear those songs among unreleased singles at Mile of Music this August.

If you haven't attended a Michigander show before, you can expect it to be a lot of high energy.
