GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- After 30 years downtown and 20 years at its current Broadway location, Cup O Joy is moving to a new home.
The Christian entertainment and music venue will soon be located at 525 N. Taylor Dr. in Green Bay. It was formerly the Masonic Lodge and already has two performance spaces. One is a large auditorium that seats nearly 500 people and another smaller space seats 200 people.
“I think the big thing that really just impressed upon us in this building was that we can not only do a national act that can seat 500 we can do local, regional, we can serve the community and grow artists because we have a space that’s much more intimate also,” said Jan Oettinger, director and coordination of Cup O Joy.
Cup O Joy employees have been looking for a larger space for eight years. They say it was important to have tall ceilings and ample parking.
“We feel like this was a miracle find,” said Oettinger. “This was very unusual for us to find a building like this, the bones already here. The majority of the buildings we’ve looked at have been warehouses or storefronts that are kind of these large box stores.”
The total cost of the move is $3.2 million. That includes $1 million for the building, $1.2 million for renovations and a $1 million endowment to keep the business running.
Cup O Joy launched its capital campaign Monday. The organization has already raised $1 million toward its goal.
A benefit concert is being held Saturday at the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center where details will be announced to the public.
No date has been decided for the move. As of now, events will continue to be scheduled at the Broadway location. The group is expecting a building permit by December.
