Professor talks about torture, solitary confinement

UW-Green Bay professor Derek Jeffreys appears on CW 14 Focus with Robert Hornacek.

(WCWF) -- This week on CW 14 Focus, host Robert Hornacek will be joined by a professor who is bringing attention to issues related to human dignity.

Derek Jeffreys is a professor of humanistic studies and religion at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay

He is also an author who has written several books, including Spirituality and the Ethics of Torture and Spirituality in Dark Places: The Ethics of Solitary Confinement.

On the show, Jeffreys will discuss his work and what he means when he talks about human dignity.

"What I mean by dignity is called 'inherent dignity,' that you have value simply because you're a person," Jeffreys said. "It's a value that your parents can't give you or the government can't give you or the government can't take away. You have value, period."

CW 14 Focus is a weekly, half-hour interview program that focuses on the issues important to people in northeast Wisconsin. Each week, Robert Hornacek will sit down with a different guest and go beyond the sound bites. The program will highlight the people making a difference in the community and give viewers an opportunity to get in depth perspective. CW 14 Focus airs Sundays at 10 a.m.
