(WCWF) -- This week on CW 14 Focus host Robert Hornacek will be joined by two guests to talk about the long and colorful history of stock car racing in Northeast Wisconsin.

Race car driver Lowell Bennett and author Joe Verdegan will appear on the show.

Verdegan is the author of a new book titled, "Wisconsin International Raceway: Where the Big Ones Run." In the book, he traces the history of WIR and highlights some of the well-known drivers.

"Generations of families that work for a living, this is their hobby," Verdegan said. "But you also have guys that have used WIR as a stepping stone to move up to the NASCAR level."

Bennett is decorated driver who has spent 40 years behind the wheel. On the show, he talks about how racing has changed and what it's like to race at WIR.

"It's an unbelievable experience. We're going around a half mile race tracks, speeds of about 120 miles per hour on the straight away, turning the corner on top of it. It's pretty hair-raising for people if you haven't been to a race before," Bennett said.

CW 14 Focus is a weekly, half-hour interview program that focuses on the issues important to people in northeast Wisconsin. Each week, Robert Hornacek will sit down with a different guest and go beyond the sound bites. The program will highlight the people making a difference in the community and give viewers an opportunity to get in depth perspective. CW 14 Focus airs Sundays at 10 a.m.
