On Monday on Twitter, Julie Plec responded to a fan who had guessed at the actor playing a major new role in The Vampire Diaries — confirming that Colin Ferguson would indeed be playing Tripp — “head of a community militia ‘who will do anything to protect his town.'”

Colin Ferguson is best known for his role as Sheriff Jack Carter on Eureka,

but has appeared in many other shows and movies.

Marginal CW trivia: this marks his first appearance on a CW show, but he did show up for one episode of Girlfriends – a UPN show that ported over to The CW.
