TVLine.com announced the scoop that Brandon Routh will join the cast of Arrow this fall, in the role of Ray Palmer, aka the Atom.
The Atom as a character debuted back in 1961. His chief power is the ability to shrink down, all the way to the subatomic level.
Although getting small seems more like a great Steve Martin sketch than a great super power, it can be used in a variety of surprising ways.
Brandon Routh first popped up in the WB/CW-verse in a one-off role on Gilmore Girls:
But is of course best known as Superman in 2006’s Superman Returns.
He followed up with some roles that showed off some comedic chops, like Kevin Smith’s Zach and Miri Make a Porno, and arguably the greatest of the League of Ramona’s Evil Exes, with his role as Todd Ingram in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World:
This could also mark a fairly big evolution for Arrow. Overall the show has stressed (relative) realism — and that’s not a guy who can get small at will.
